ELECTRICAL CONTROL PANEL

Control panel is a metal box contains the electrical equipment's that control and monitor mechanical process electrically.

control panel

Before constructing a panel the following point must be considered
1. The panel is outdoor or indoor.
2. Waterproof
3. For hazard condition
4. Dustproof

Enclosure
The metal box that contains all the electrical devices of the control panel. The enclosure is often made of mild steel, galvanized iron, plastic or any other the material. the size of the enclosure varies based on the size of the process.
the enclosure will have a safety rating. It also has an IP rating.

 Parts in Control Panel

1. MOUNTING  PLATE
The mounting plate is one which the electrical pieces of equipment are mounted.

2. DIN Rails
It is also used to mount electrical devices.

3. WIRING DUCTS

4. TRANSFORMER
The transformer is commonly used to step up or step down the voltage between circuit. It transfers the energy from one circuit to another circuit.

5. TERMINAL BLOCK
The terminal block consists of two terminals that can join two or more wire together.

6.  PLC
PLC is the brain of the entire process. The PLC will have a CPU where the logic program is stored.
It will associates with input and output which help in control and monitoring.
Terminal has a wire running from them to input and output. This allows actual control in the assembly line.
Field devices such as proximity switches and other sensor are set on the line to give feedback needed for PLC to control operation.
the plc outputs will be wired to the bank of the relays that will close an internal contact that will send power out to turn off/om devices.
The smaller relay will control the devices such as light or fan. While bigger relay is called contactor used to control motor.

7. HMI
Human Machine Interface. It located on to the door or in a remote panel located closer to machinery. HMI is a dynamic tool in controlling and monitoring machinery. The PLC will pass signal over the network to HMI for monitoring and the HMI send the signal to the PLC for controlling machinery.

The other devices in the control panel are relays, SMPS, voltmeter, Ammeter, alarm etc.
